Auroville's name means "City of Dawn" and mention to the dawning of a new sensibility. Auroville was founded in the late of 1960 by the French fancied called "The Mother". Together they dreamed a great future for human race, all the world live in peace and harmony. Auroville intends to achive this dream of the world unity. Auroville will be a place for the spiritual development of humanity.

Now about 2000 people from thirty five countries live in Auroville, so the spiritual development is their driving force to the future, living the age into all their human activities. This fact is most amazing reflected in the basic architecture of its town organization. The Temple of the Mother located in the heart beside an ancient banyan tree in Auroville, place for ceremony and spiritual ritual, there is also an urn which contains earth or soil from one hundreds and twinty four countries as a symbol of the world harmony and unity. Auroville is divided into 4 directional parts: (industrial, cultural, residential and international), and surrounding all of that with ‘green girt’, constant research, organic farming and reforest.

The very scope of the Auroville vision and its work is devout. It has many elements of a truly constant community. But despite its success, Auroville is no utopia. It is a beautiful dream unfolding into reality. It is a micro-cosmic reflection of all the challenges that India and the world are faced with, riddled with imperfections and intractable problems, as any visitor will quickly find out. Yet it strives to model a low-impact way of the years of the age, and demonstrates ways that we can work together to restore our social, ecological and spiritual balance. More than anything, Auroville is an ongoing experiment, a positive, practical solutions-based research station. Auroville is a living laboratory intent on the search for a sustainable future and a city the earth needs.

Auroville, established in 1968, is a Universal Township near Pondicherry, South India. Auroville’s ideals, innovative approaches and experiments in various daily fields have earned it a name synonymous to sustainable community living. It was completely barren land that has been transformed into a lush green forest within a small period of 20 years thus recharging the ground water table and creating a habitable environment for all. This Abstract aims at to share the ideals, organizational structure, activities and experiments and way of life in Auroville that are truly inspirational for all and have a great research and learning potential.

Auroville, the City of Dawn, is a place in south India where, for more than thirty years, an increasing number of people from all over the world have been quietly and painstakingly working on the construction of a new township, a new way of living, a new way of being. Something is being attempted here for the benefit of all.

As per Charter given by The Mother, Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole, it will be the place of an unending education and constant progress, a bridge between the past and the future, and be the site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual human unity. The Town has a proposed population of 50,000 in a circular form surrounded by the Green Belt covering 20 sq kms. Today, it has about 2,000 Aurovilian residents representing over 40 nationalities from all over the world. It is important to note that only 1200 adults are here who in turn provide the high quality & creative training and employment in different areas to 5000 people from surrounding rural areas. Entry to Auroville is a voluntary act.

Auroville has a small but very qualified and expert resource person base which offer its services on many fronts and have won many prestigious International awards like Ashden Awards (Green Oscar) for Sustainable Energy 2004, The Club of Budapest adopted the Auroville project to "become humanity's first universal city, the shared treasure of all nations and people, ‘We the Peoples’ 50 Communities award in the category of Human Settlements on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations and in 1992: Hassan Fathi International Award for Architecture for the Poor to name a few.

The travel to Auroville are cheap. There are more services like hospitality exchange hotels. You can meet meet friendly people.
